The Sub Pop Music Window was a store window display project by the Visual Merchandising Group at Nordstrom. To honor the induction of Sub Pop’s founders into the Nordstrom Walk of Fame, the window featured imagery and artifacts from the the famous music label and their various artists.
As a member of the Emerging Media group of Nordstrom Direct, we modified and extended a touch experience for the previous Seattle Music Window project to feature selectable imagery in a horizontally scrolling timeline, and — using a Node.js-based socket server on wired ethernet — trigger videos that played simultaneously on the back wall and two stacks of old televisions, while playing audio in the exterior speakers on the corner of Pine and 6th Streets. The touch experience was rear-projected onto a touch-enabled film mounted to the interior of the window, and the back wall video was front-projected in long-throw, 1080p high-definition.
We designed the interactive experience, curated imagery, converted h.264 video files, and consulted on, performed and maintained the installation throughout its month-long run in the window of Nordstrom’s flagship store.
